We Went Viral… and Here’s What Happened Afterwards
Something crazy happened two weeks ago — we went viral on Facebook.
I’ve been ramping up my soap-making videos to show more of the behind-the-scenes things I do, and I definitely wasn’t expecting what happened next. I thought I was just connecting with our local customers as we were all getting excited for the upcoming market season together.
Then one video hit 100,000 views… and another is quickly approaching that same milestone.
The comments and followers exploded. And so did the trolls and keyboard warriors. 😅
If you haven’t been following our video reels, go here to check out the one that broke our page. 😆
The funny thing is — I wasn’t actually trying to sell anything. And even if I had wanted to, I didn’t have much to sell.
I had pretty much cleared out of our fall and winter products, and these weren’t locals I could sell meat to. These were brand-new connections from all over the country. I had 100+ requests to purchase the soaps in the videos… and none of them were ready.
So I scrambled. And yes, I freaked out a little.
I decided to launch part of the spring collection early on a pre-order basis. Not all of it — but enough so I wouldn’t disappoint people or lose potential customers. Momentum matters, and things were getting exciting.
Here’s What I Learned
1. Have a plan to stay connected — even if you have nothing to sell.
I’m sure I lost some potential buyers simply because I wasn’t prepared for something like this. Lesson learned.
2. Serve… and then serve some more.
I’ve spent hours upon hours responding to comments — all of them. The kind ones. The curious ones. Even the mean ones. I’ve had conversations with new people, other soap makers, and I’ve learned several things that I’ll research further and possibly implement in the future.
3. It’s okay to be a little spicy.
Stick to what you know — even when others try to make you doubt yourself.
Here’s What You Need to Know
If you’re local to Floyd, VA, Radford, VA, or planning to attend our in-person farmers markets: Many items I wasn’t planning to release until April are now on the website for pre-order. I cannot guarantee they’ll still be available when we open the Floyd and Draper Markets the first weekend in April. If you see something on the website that you want, go ahead and order it. Select on-farm pickup, and I’ll coordinate directly with you. You’ll be able to pick up on the farm when those items are finished curing and ready during the first week of April, or you can choose one of the markets we’ll be attending that weekend.
If you aren’t local to our in-person markets: Go to the website now and place your order. Items will ship out on April 1st, but I can’t guarantee availability if you wait until then to order.
Thank you all for the support — for watching our videos and for helping our small farm grow. If you’re not already on our email list, be sure to sign up here so you don’t miss future releases, workshops, and updates.
